Using the site press display I have found different examples of local newspapers. Each of these newspapers are from different areas however they all share certain layout features
Basic analysis
Other shared features
- Colours are used on each of the newspaper covers however the use of colour is limited. I find that this helps certain aspects to stand out and the page is not overloaded with colours.
- Also on the front cover of each newspaper there is an advert for either a company or an event in the area. This offers local businesses better publicity to their audiences and allows the newspaper to make money
- The main headline is roughly the same size as the newspaper title this could help to attract readers to the newspaper through the article portrayed rather than the fact that they may read a certain newspaper.
- The photos used on the newspaper are all quite large as quite a large audience are attracted to a product firstly because of graphics/photographs that they use. I think that this factor is used particularly well on the Scarborough Telegraph with the bright colours of the policeman.
- On two of the newspapers directly underneath the newspaper name there is a banner containing a preview of a particular article in the paper. In general these appear to be slightly more light hearted articles and could be advertising things such as newspaper competitions.
From looking at other local newspapers I can start to get an idea of the kind of things I will need to consider when creating my local newspaper.
